What is an “AI second brain” — and how does Link Crypt work as one?
The second brain idea (popularized by Tiago Forte) is simple: capture what you find online into one organized place so future-you—and now your AI assistants—can pull it back on demand. With tool-enabled runtimes like Claude Code and ChatGPT Actions/Codex calling APIs and reading files, an organized link library is more valuable than ever.
Link Crypt is the URL layer of that stack:
- 📥 Capture — one-click save from the Chrome extension
- 🏷️ Organize — Cryptie auto-suggests tags from your vocabulary
- 🔎 Retrieve —
tag:/domain:search at scale - 🤖 Express — feed it to Claude Code, ChatGPT Actions/Codex, Obsidian, Hermes, OpenClaw, or any HTTP client
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I save links to Link Crypt?
The easiest way is with our Chrome Extension:
- Install the Save to Link Crypt extension
- Sign in with your Link Crypt account
- Click the extension icon on any webpage to save it instantly
- Add tags and notes before saving (optional)

The extension popup lets you add tags, edit the URL, and save with one click
Alternative method: You can also paste URLs directly into Link Crypt's "Add Link" form when you're signed in to the web app.
How does Cryptie's AI auto-tagging work?
Every time you save a new link, Cryptie reads the page (title, description, body content, and domain) and suggests tags based on:
- Your existing tag vocabulary — Cryptie reuses tags you already have so your taxonomy stays consistent.
- Page context — title, meta description, and extracted page text drive the suggestion.
- Description fallback — if the page blocks scraping (Instagram, paywalled news, etc.) Cryptie generates a short summary so the link is still searchable.
You can turn auto-tagging on or off any time in Preferences → Cryptie's AI. Manual tagging works the same as always.
Re-tag an old link: open the link card and use the “Re-tag with AI” action. Cryptie re-runs the analysis and merges new suggestions with your existing tags.
How do I connect Link Crypt to Claude Code, ChatGPT Actions/Codex, Obsidian, or my own agent?
Every plan includes the full Link Crypt REST API. Each integration uses the same Bearer token (mint one in Preferences → API keys):
skill.md into your project so Claude Code can call the API tools.Looking for n8n, Zapier, Make, Raycast, Notion, or Readwise? See the full integrations directory.
Does Link Crypt have an API for agents?
Yes. Link Crypt ships a first-class REST API so tool-enabled clients can talk to your library:
GET /api/v1/search— query your crypt withtag:anddomain:filtersPOST /api/v1/links— save a URL with tags and optional previewPOST /api/v1/links/:id/tags— adjust tags from a chat or scriptPOST /api/v1/analyze/digest— pull an AI digest of recent saves
Auth is a Bearer token from Preferences → API keys. Full reference and examples: /api.

How does Link Crypt's search work?

tag:javascriptFind by tagdomain:github.comFind by domaintitle:tutorialSearch titlesdescription:apiSearch descriptionsIs my data private and secure?
Absolutely! Privacy is core to Link Crypt:

- Full data export available anytime

How do I clean up duplicate links or tags?
Use the Maintenance page to detect and merge duplicates:
- Duplicate Links — groups links by normalized URL (tracking parameters like
utm_*are stripped). The oldest copy becomes the canonical; all tags are merged in and missing metadata is filled from the duplicates. - Duplicate Tags — groups tags with the same name case-insensitively (e.g. “JavaScript” and “javascript”). Keeps the oldest tag, moves all link associations to it, then removes the duplicates.
Both tools preview the changes before you commit — you can review every group before running cleanup. Always export a backup first.
Can I undo a cleanup operation?
No — cleanup operations permanently delete the duplicate records. There is no undo.
Always export a CSV backup before running cleanup. The Maintenance page has a prominent “Export Backup Now” button at the top, and you can also export from the account menu at any time.
Can I export my data from Link Crypt?
Yes! We believe in data portability. You can export your entire Link Crypt library at any time:
- Export all links, tags, and metadata
- CSV format for compatibility
- No vendor lock-in
- Available from your account menu
