How Pocket Export Worked (For Reference)
This section explains how Pocket's export process worked before the shutdown. This information is for reference only — the export page no longer functions.
1 Access Pocket's Export Tool
Where to Go:
https://getpocket.com/exportThis is Pocket's official export page. It's the only way to download your complete library.
Important: The export page only works while you're signed into your Pocket account.
What You'll See:
- • Pocket's export interface
- • Options for different file formats
- • Estimated export size (based on your library)
- • Download button (after format selection)
Tip: Export works on any device - desktop, mobile, or tablet.
2 Choose Your Export Format
CSV Format (Pocket's Only Export Option)
What's Included in Your Export:
- • All saved links and articles
- • Original titles and descriptions
- • Your personal tags
- • Favorite/starred status
- • Save dates and timestamps
- • Archive vs unread status
- • Link excerpts and summaries
Perfect for: Complete migration to Link Crypt with all your data preserved.
3 Download and Secure Your Data
Download Process:
- Click "Export" or "Download" button
- Wait for Pocket to process your library
- File will download automatically when ready
- Large libraries (5,000+ links) may take several minutes
- Don't close browser while export is processing
File Size: CSV exports are typically 1-5MB for most libraries. Large collections (20,000+ links) can be 20MB+.
Protect Your Export:
- • Save multiple copies: Desktop, cloud storage, external drive
- • Email backup to yourself: Use Gmail, Outlook, etc.
- • Rename meaningfully: "pocket-export-2025-01-14.csv"
- • Verify download: Make sure file isn't corrupted
Critical: This might be your only chance to get this data. Treat it like a precious family photo!
Export Troubleshooting
Export Button Won't Work
Solution: Clear browser cache, disable ad blockers, try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari).
Some browser extensions can interfere with Pocket's export functionality.
Export Takes Forever
Large libraries: Very large collections can take 10-15 minutes. Be patient, don't refresh.
Peak usage times (evenings, weekends) may be slower.
Export Fails/Times Out
Try again later: Server overload is common. Try early morning or late night.
If failing repeatedly, try again during off-peak hours (early morning or late night).
Downloaded File is Tiny/Empty
Check file size: Should be at least 100KB for most libraries. Empty = failed export.
Try downloading again with a stable internet connection.
Can't Sign Into Pocket
Password reset: Use Pocket's "Forgot Password" feature before the deadline.
If you used Firefox/Mozilla account, try those credentials.
